3:00 pm Socialize and Games* new this year
5:00 pm Dinner
Gift Exchange after Dinner

Dinner will be ordered from the menu. Reservations are necessary to give the restaurant an idea of numbers and to secure your place in the gift exchange.

Gift Exchange

There will be a gift exchange in the form of a "CHINESE AUCTION" with gifts valued at approximately $10 per person.

Here's how it works:
  • If you bring a gift, you choose a gift.
  • The last person to respond to this email will choose a gift first. The second last person will then choose a gift and if you like it you keep it. If you like the gift the other person got better, you can "steal" that one. And on we go!
  • As we choose our gifts, we can either keep them or "steal" one from the selection that has already been opened.

Let's see how creative we can be!

P.S. If, at the last minute you are able to join us, please come! There is always room for a few more.

...Those Who Can't, Teach

With the Holidays rapidly approaching, most photographers are in a tizzy trying to get it all done, knowing all to well that after the feast the famine will start. Every year it's the same roller coaster ride, storing acorns for two thirds of the year to find them during winter. Unfortunately the same monthly bills have no problem making it through the cold and snow to my mailbox.

So what do we do when faced with a situation where you're unable to work in the traditional sense. I am faced with such a situation this year having just had a fairly extensive shoulder surgery. So I've been brain storming on ways to keep from starving while not being able to lift a camera. The old saying goes, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." So teach I will do.

For those brave enough to spend a day in the cold, I will be offering a full-day "Winter Trash the Dress" seminar. This will be a great way to build or expand your portfolio to offer a unique and creatively satisfying type of photography to your clients. We will have models willing to get a little cold while we explore the subtleties of light during winter, using natural light, reflectors, video light and the Pocket Wizard miniFlex and TT1 set. Dates and location TBD. Please e-mail at steve@cheslerphoto.com if you'd like to receive more information.

PPSNYS FINGER LAKES SECTION CELEBRATES 100 YEARS

NEW YORK, DECEMBER 2011 – This year marks the 100th anniversary for the founding of the Finger Lakes Section of the Professional Photographers’ Society of New York State, Inc. (PPSNYS). Members and guests gathered at Abigail’s Restaurant in Waterloo, NY on November 16 to celebrate the centennial anniversary. Joan Grela, Chief of Staff for Senator Michael F. Nozzolio, 54th Senate District, read and presented a proclamation on behalf of the Senator and Assemblyman Brian Kolb. The proclamation commemorates the 100th anniversary while recognizing and celebrating the Finger Lakes Section’s accomplishments.

Monroe Payne, Section Chair for the Finger Lakes Section, presented the minutes from the first meeting of the Geneva Section, as it was originally named, published in Wilson’s Photographic Magazine, March 1911. While acknowledging the similarities between the founders of the Section and todays members, Payne also pointed out the changes that one hundred years has brought to the photography industry; most notable of these being the importance and complexity of digitized imagery today.

As Payne questions, “where will the next hundred years lead us?” He listed many aspects about photography that have not changed; natural light, people, rules and techniques of composition are universal and timeless. “Our function remains the same; to capture our clients as their true selves, but at their very best, in a manner and of a quality that only professionals can do,” says Payne. “The friendship and mentoring that exist within our profession will continue to push us and force us to become even better at our craft.”
