Message from the Editor

Holy Smokes! It looks like a bomb went off in my studio. All of my elves are busy preparing photos to deliver for Christmas, only to be reburied daily when the UPS guy opens the door. We have filled the closets with empty boxes and have bubble packing falling out of every available nook and cranny. It's easy to let the meaning of the holidays get lost in the shuffle. What ever the meaning is for you, step back, take a deep breath and embrace it. For me, the meaning is in the photo below. It's the magic seen in my kids eyes this time of year. I want to wish all of you the happiest of holidays and a successful upcoming year.

Greetings!

 Guest Photographer Dan Dokes!

Doke Blue If you've never heard about Dan Dokes, you will soon! Dan is an amazing wedding photographer from Massachussets, when I saw a program he did I was blown away! One of his wedding albums was scored a 100 by some of the print judges in MA. I've been after Dan for a while to get some images to me and I have two for this issue and I'll save a couple more for later. Enjoy!

The light coming down was tungsten, I wanted to keep the warm feel of the room and make the Boston skyline pop. I did a custom white balance at 2800K to properly expose for the light coming down, knowing that this would add blue to the skyline. When you set your white balance for tungsten light any day light will turn blue.

Dokes bride This picture was created using available light from a hotel window and tungsten light. I removed the shade off of the lamp in the hotel room placed the light behind the bride. I exposed for the light coming in the window knowing that the back light would create a warm glow with a nice vignette.

 EPhoto Christmas Shopping!
 Great ideas from our sponsors.

I can't stress enough how much I appreciate our sponsors and advertisers. Without them, EPhoto would not exist! So when you're thinking of the perfect gift for a photographer or to give to someone, think of our wonderful sponsors. Here are some examples:

From my wonderful lab LustreColor, how about ordering an art print for that family member who's always wanted one? I'm even making some of the elegant press printed cards to use as gifts this year. In addition to their beautiful albums, Capri makes wonderful folios that will enhance your collection of photos for a wonderful gift. And remember, you can't give that art print to someone unframed! The Levin Company has such a huge collection of frames and mats, you'll be sure to find just what you need there.

For you photographers friend or spouse, give them LucisArt software (STEVEBEDELL coupon code for 15% discount) , the essential Photoshop plug in that every top pro has on their computer. Kevin Kubota's actions are amazing and simple to use. And for stunning backgrounds at very low prices, go to Drewbackgrounds.com and use EPhoto for a coupon code and get 10% off plus free shipping! Whoops! Almost forgot, get my Natural Light DVD for your favorite photographer, see details below! Enjoy the holiday season!
