Program Info
"Photo Booth"
Kevin Carlson, owner of Carlson's Studio in Wyoming and Batavia will present
a program about his new photo booth. You may have see articles lately about
the resurgence of the "Photo Booth" concept to weddings and parties. Those
that attended last year's state convention were able to experience it
firsthand. Kevin will go over how he constructed one from scratch, and what
experiences he has had using it so far. What has been the client reaction?
Can you make money with one? What equipment do I need? These are just some
of the areas to be covered. The booth will be set up and operational for
everyone to see and use.
Our Fall Picnic is SUNDAY October 11, 2009!
It's an informal “Fall Picnic” with the Finger Lakes, Central and Southern Tier Professional Photographers section members and their families. We are also opening it up to guests such as: speakers and any past, present or prospective members interested in attending as well.
This will be just a fun, casual outing but plan bring your camera gear for a photo scavenger hunt. The leaves have begun to change color so you can also take some great fall photos.
Place: Stewart Park, Ithaca, NY - view map
Time: 1:00 - until ?
Date: Oct 11th, 2009
When entering the park, turn right after you go over the railroad tracks. There will be tables in that area where we will meet. If it's raining we will try to use the shelter there but if it's really bad, please come anyway. We can go to a local place in Dryden called The Dryden Hotel. They have a dining room and food if we need a backup plan.
Please plan to bring your own lunch, drinks, chairs and such along with your camera gear.
If you have any photography goodies sitting around that you'd like to swap or sell, bring them along. This is the perfect opportunity since we'll have our cars right there and won't need to carry anything into a building. Just open your trunk and show your stuff. ;-)
There is nothing more fun than getting together with colleagues and friends to share photography ideas in a beautiful setting!

Message from the Editor
Harmonic Wealth
In the past I have not been much of a reader. I tend to choose magazines over books because I can dive into a nice article and be done with it just as fast feeling educated and inspired. This year however has been different. I have read more books in the past year than I have in the previous decade. Many of the books have been either business related or on self empowerment, such as The Secret.
As the busy season set in over the summer, my availability to sit down and read a book for any length of time has been somewhat limited. However, I have discovered the value of audiobooks while editing photos or in the car on a long trip to a wedding. I just finished the book Harmonic Wealth by James Arthur Ray. It has some really great concepts on focusing your thoughts and actions to create the kind of life you want. In my speaking program I ask the question, "Are you where you want to be?" If the answer is no, I recommend this book to help develop a clear mental picture of where you want to be. Without that clear vision, you'll have a hard time achieving it.
Whether it's Harmonic Wealth, or any other book, the time we spend in front of the computer or in the car is a blank canvas, waiting for you to fill it knowledge and inspiration, instead of blindly staring at pixels.

Minutes of the September 2009 Meeting:
September 16, 2009

Newsletter: Concern was expressed that the section website hadn't been updated since May. Monroe said he would talk to Steve about updating newsletter.
Treasurer's Report: Accepted as read.
Dues: PPSNY President Craig Hutchings discussed the merits of the new dues structure being proposed by council. Craig pointed out that dues range widely - from $25.00 [SNAPP] to $135.00 [PPGNY]. In an effort to simplify dues and to lessen the confusion (particularly for prospective members), one proposal calls for a uniform state wide dues assessment whereas all sections would pay the same amount. In the interest of simplicity all members would be billed by the State and sections would be reimbursed their share. Proposed amounts: $100.00 per section and $150.00 for State. Members could pay their dues by credit card, and payments could be spread over 3 consecutive months. Other ideas included a website map whereby one would click on the closest section for that section's dues amount. Craig urged members to provide delegates with any ideas regarding this before the next council meeting.
Next Council Meeting October 4
Old Business: Meeting time an place were again discussed. Vince mentioned that the reason we changed the meeting time was to attract new faces, and it was questioned as to weather we had accomplished that. Steve Roth expressed difficulty in getting time off work to come to a 2:00 meeting. Kevin urged members to block off off their calendars well in advance of meetings. Motion: to revert to 2:00 meeting time until further notice -- carried. After checking the availability of Abaigails it was decided to continue to hold the meetings at Abigail's.
Programs: Monroe said he would like to have a section member speak for 10 to 15 minutes on their area of expertise at each meeting. He said this would give members a chance to "get their feet wet" without having to present a whole program.
