Newsletter September 2008
The Finger Lakes Section of PPSNYS, Inc. will hold it's monthly meeting
on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Nonna's Trattoria in Geneva, NY. The
business meeting will begin at 2:00pm with a program at 3:00pm. Dinner will
follow the program. Please plan to stay and support your group! See you there.
The Program will be presented by...
James Metz, "All in a Day's Work".
This program will demonstrate for the studio owner and his/her employees how software and techniques can be readily adapted for their immediate studio use.
The program includes a step-by-step summary of studio processes used in James Metz Photos and will include:
- the use of both raw and jpg files in the studio and on location;
- the processing of and backing up of the image files;
- the programs used to color correct the images;
- the programs used to view the images in the studio;
- the preparing of proof books for both portrait customers or wedding customers;
- selling and the recording of orders for the customer;
- the documentation for in-house or online processing by a professional lab;
- the retouching software and how to use it;
- the rip printing for in-house processing;
- the final preparation of the delivered print;
- and then how to add additional frame and collage sales.
- If time permits, an introduction to Lightroom will be demonstrated.
This complete day in the life of studio operations will provide viewers with
insights they can use in their own workflow. Also, the program is intended to
stimulate conversation and provide the brainstorming for even more enhancement.
A complete list of resources will be provided to each person attending, without
the need to purchase anything from the speaker.
Jim Metz has been in the photography business for over 30 years, has attended
the PPSNY Summer Workshop as a participant or workshop trustee for the past 30
years, and has benefited from various other instructional resources. Jim has
had the pleasure of playing golf with Craig and Linda Hutchings! Jim is
presently on the board of PPSNYS, and is the secretary and trade show chair for
PPA of Pa.
Message from the Editor
I just got back from presenting a program to the South Eastern Wisconsin PPA in Milwaukee. What a great group of photographers. They were super nice and a lot of fun to spend time with. Their group now has over 100 members and continues to grow by the week. See the image below taken in Milwaukee during the program.
On the homefront, I will be presenting for the Central section on October 18th as well as a Super Monday program at my studio on October 27th. Visit the PPA website at http://www.ppa.com/i4a/pages/Index.cfm?pageID=49 for more Super Monday information.
Just a quick reminder that the state PPSNY web forum is live at www.ppsnysforum.com. This is a different, more user friendly forum than our current Finger Lakes Yahoo group.
