The new PPSNY Forum is off to a running start. Don't to forget to sign up at www.ppsnysforum.com. This is one of your new member benefits, so take advantage of it and share ideas and inspiration with friends and colleagues across the state.

Our senior and wedding season is in high gear. It is this time of year I usually reevaluate the ideas and concepts I implemented during the slower season and make fine tune adjustments. One of the new things we are doing to boost our senior bookings is our new senior blog. You can view it at http://cheslerseniors.blogspot.com.

Message from Honey

Hi Fellow Finger Lakers!

This may not be my job as there are others who serve in a greater capacity than I, but as one of your delegates to Council, I'd like to let you know of the good job your PPSNYS Board is doing this year.

As you know from PPSNYS President, Kelvin Ringold, we have a new website up and running, a new forum and a blog. All of these will bring us up to date in this electronic age. Kelvin and his Conference Committee have everything in place ALREADY!! for a successful 2009 Conference. The Desmond Hotel in Albany, where we met for Council Meeting, is a fantastic venue and we enjoyed our weekend there very much. The food is great and the facilities will allow comfortable space for programs by the wonderful speakers who are already booked and ready to see you in the Spring. Trade show vendors are signing up now. Everyone is working hard to make this a great Conference but *you* need to do your part. The vendors would like to see early numbers of attendees. You have the opportunity to be part of this great event at a reduced price until September 15th. Please register now to show your hardworking Board Members that you appreciate what they have put together. Go to www.ppsnys.com and after you look at the photos on the intro page ( I took the one of Brian Barrett so make sure you notice it ), click on Annual Conference and SIGNUP.

There was a great feeling of "let's get moving" in the board room this time.

The membership committee has put into place a better process for contacting prospective members. We (our own Monroe Payne is authoring) are working on a letter that will go out from State *immediately* upon contact and then alerts to the proper section will be emailed so they can contact the prospect personally.

On a motion by our own Craig Hutchings, all sections will accept applications at the section level again and then send the state dues on. This will insure that the section knows immediately when we have a new member and we will be able to add them to our roster without a long wait. The new PPSNYS website will add the names as soon as the application is received at headquarters.

Membership committee member Tim Shaffer, brought up an idea he got from PPANE and a motion was made to put this new prospect grabbing idea in place. For 2009, any first time prospective member who signs up for the Conference, will automatically become a member of the State and Section to be chosen by them. This will give us the opportunity of a WHOLE YEAR to let these new members see what a great organization we have and then stay with us for years to come. Any NEW member who signed up after May 2008 (last conference time) will receive 2009 Conference registration free. This will eliminate anyone waiting to sign up and will get them into the group asap.

The membership committee is also working on grabbing those new, young inspired photographers by putting together facebook and myspace pages for PPSNYS. We need to go where people congregate and at the moment, that is online!

Remember, there is still a promotion for you to receive half price dues for one year if you bring in a new member! There will be more ideas coming to find new members. We are meeting by email on regular basis so we can continue the work begun at Council. Stay tuned.

Your Council is working together to make 2008-09 a productive year for the members. This is only some of what is in the works and I may have forgotten some items. If any of the other delegates have something to add, or corrections to be made, please do so.

As you well know, I am all about communication and feel the only way to create a cohesive organization is for all of us to stay in touch. Kelvin is a great communicator and we will not lack for information this year. Let's help him keep up the good work!

Make sure you save Wednesday, August 20 for the Finger Lakes Annual Picnic to be held at the Hutchings' Campsite in Cheerful Valley just north of Geneva. I'll send out the Dish to Pass list and directions the first week of August. We'll start around 2:00 pm.

Be sure to check your website from time to time for any new info www.flppsny.com.

I'm off to Workshop next week! It's going to be fantastic.

Photoshop and your "Creative Vision" Part 2
(From the blog of Jonathan Penney - Digital Imaging and Printmaking)

Returning to our subject of "creative vision"... in the last post (Jan. 11), we spoke about drawing inspiration from many different types of images, letting them be the raw material that will drive your own, unique vision. It's fine to skim over lots of images, but for those that catch your attention, take time to look more closely. Analyze the artist's choices of color, contrast, density, composition, texture, etc. This may all seem very "calculating", but over time it will become intuitive. Let's look at an example:
