It is with great regret that I write to inform you of the passing of long time Finger Lakes Member, Ellis Stratford. Ellis was a dear friend who kept in touch with many of us.

He was dedicated to the Finger Lakes Section and was instrumental in bringing many new members into the group. Lois Miller got the call from Ellis' son Ron and she asked me to pass the info on to everyone.

Ellis was 93 years old and had been living with his son in Missouri for some time now. Aside from losing his eyesight, which was very difficult for him, he was in fairly good health until just a few weeks ago. His services will be held in Waterloo.

Message from the Editor

If anyone has ever had a question as to what being a member of PPSNY is all about, last months gathering at Kevin's studio in Batavia should have answered any of those questions. It's about the camaraderie and sharing of knowledge between colleagues that makes us stronger as individuals and a group.

On a personal level, I gained a much clearer insight on shooting seniors outdoors than I've ever had before. I have been using a 200mm f2.8 lens and a reflector since the meeting and the results have been dramatic. I've also broken the routine of photos that became second nature and ventured deeper into the back alleys and corners of downtown Canandaigua searching for more unique settings. Here are some of the results.

The Finger Lakes Section is a section of the Professional Photographers' Society of New York State, Inc. (PPSNYS) which is an affiliate of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA).

The PPSNYS is a not for profit association formed in 1905 solely to instruct its members and the general public in photography; and to create, foster, promote and encourage the exchange of information among its members and the public.

The PPA is a worldwide association that exists to assist its members in achieving their professional, artistic and fraternal goals; promote public awareness of the profession; and to advance the making of images in all of its disciplines as an art, a science and a visual recorder of history.
