Newsletter June 2009

The Finger Lakes Section of PPSNYS, Inc. will hold it's monthly meeting on
Wednesday, June 17, 2009
at The Sandbar at The Inn on the Lake
in Canandaigua, NY. (585) 394-7800.

We will meet at 5:00 pm for dinner and a short business meeting.
After dinner we will move to Chesler Photography Studio, www.cheslerphoto.com
114 South Main St.(above Garlocks Office Center) Canandaigua, NY 14424, 585-393-9242.

Steve Chesler will be giving a tour of the Studio and has kindly offered a presentation on Proselect and Successware for sales presentations.

As Monroe, 1st VP and Program Chair wrote in a note to Steve...
"Chesler Photography is a magical place, and your work is wonderful... But where the rubber meets the road, when the client pulls out the checkbook. That is where I personally am interested." Do you use ProSelect for your presentations to your clients? Do you project? Do you role-play with your staff to hone your sales technique? Do you do your selling or does a member of your staff? Your image is that of a seriously successful studio. We all can take decent photos, and are by nature interested in the hardware, but how you close the sale is of primary interest to me. Call it the most important segment of workflow!"

Steve didn't realize, when he offered the Studio for our meeting, that he would also be doing the program . Thanks so much Steve for opening your Studio to us and offering to share your knowledge.

Steve also suggested we could do a background swap if anyone wants to trade for a new look! Get them together now so you don't forget to bring them.

Message from the Editor

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to fly out to Kansas City and visit the studio of the Antisdel's. Sana Antisdel and her daughter Kia Bondaurant came to speak at our state conference three years ago in Niagara Falls on senior portraiture and Senior Portrait Artists (Spa) www.spartists.com. I have since joined Spa and it has been one of the best business moves I could have made for my senior portrait business.

This weekend's trip to Louisburg, KS was a perk for Spa members called the Spa Family Circle. My wife Sue, myself and about 20 other photographers from across the country met at their studio to discuss marketing, sales, shooting techniques and more related to senior portrait photography.

This Wednesday, the Finger Lakes Section will hold it's monthly meeting at my studio in Canandaigua. We will go over some of the tools and techniques I learned in Kansas with ProSelect, our sales presentation program, as well as our studio management software, Successware. We will only be scratching the surface of what these programs can do. I highly recommend looking in to Spa if you are a senior photographer. The level of education you will receive from this group is beyond compare.

Old Business:Meeting time an place were discussed. Vince mentioned that the reason we changed the meeting time was to attract new faces, and it was questioned as to weather we had accomplished that. Honey suggested that we "not subject our members" to long business meetings, and should limit the speaker's time to one to one and a half hours. Craig said the business meeting should take no longer than 30 minutes. Nancy suggested that in order to save time we put in our dinner orders earlier. It was informally decided to hold Summer meetings at 5:00 and Winter meetings at 2:00. Meeting venues were discussed and Steve Chesler offered his studio for the June meeting.

New Business:

TEP: Monroe reported that the TEP "made money". Honey said that a TEP held during our regular meeting time "would be less work". She added that it may be time to change TEP location for renewed interest. It was mentioned that one of the most important missions of the TEP was to bring in new members through special incentives. It was asked how many new members joined as a result of the TEP, and Honey answered "3 or 4". Motion by Monroe to skip the TEP for one year, was approved by unanimous vote. Monroe volunteered to chair the 2011 TEP.

Treasury: Vince asked for a volunteer to take over the treasury as Bonnie has been experiencing some health problems. Motion by Craig, second by Honey, to have checkbook present at meetings and see that the section chair's name is on the bank signature card. Approved. Vince said he will get the checkbook from Bonnie.

For the Good of the Order: It was mentioned that Herb Jones's father passed away and Honey circulated a card.
Craig thanked everyone who attended convention and Honey said "nest year is looking great".

Motion to Adjourn at 5:45
