The Finger Lakes Section of PPSNYS, Inc. will hold a meeting on Wednesday, May 16 at Nonna's Trattoria, One Railroad Place, Geneva, NY.
A General Business Meeting will take place at 2:00PM with a Program at 3:00 PM.
This month our speaker will be PPSNYS member Rachel Gracie from the Greater Rochester section. Her program will be about "BRANDING". You may remember her Kodak Gallery Award winning image from Conference - http://www.rachelgracie.com/lofi.php?gallery=12.
Rachel graduated from San Francisco Art Institute in 2001. She has been doing wedding photography since 2000, first as an assistant, then an associate photographer, and finally in 2003 Rachel started her own business in the Bay Area of California. In 2004 she moved to Rochester N.Y. and opened Rachel Gracie Photography.
Along with classes, Rachel regularly attends meetings and seminars to improve her skills. Rachel also volunteers her photographic skills for such worthy causes as Webster Comfort Care, Ronald McDonald House, Local Charities of Rochester, and supports children's theater. Rachel is the Program Chairperson of Greater Rochester Professional Photographers.
Rachel is a member of Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of the state of New York, Greater Rochester Professional Photographers, Wedding Professional Photographers International and Wedding Photojournalist Association.
She will be speaking on Branding for Brides. She'll touch points on how to brand with color, style, and typeface and implement this into your presence with website, blog, meeting tools, and supplies.
Dinner will follow the program. Remember we are not being charged for the use of our meeting space. Please plan to stay for dinner to keep us at Nonna's. It is also a wonderful time to share with your colleagues.
Message from the Editor
As senior and wedding season gets under way, it's time to shake the cob webs out of my posing skills. We made it through the winter and the phone is starting to ring off the hook. I've implemented many of the things I've picked up at the state conference and WPPI in Las Vegas. Time will tell whether these things will translate into better photos, more bookings and higher sales.
Some of the new things that have already proven to be a success are my new Fuji S5 and a piece of presentation software called ProSelect. If you saw Kia Bondaurant's presentation in Niagara Falls, you may remember this software. You can find it at www.timeexposure.com. It is a great tool for projection sessions.
The Fuji S5 is based on Nikon's D200 and was well worth the investment. It takes some time to get used to though, since it is significantly slower than the D200. The benefits come for those who enjoy shooting natural light in low light conditions. At 1600 iso it still out performs the Nikons in terms of image quality and noise. Here is an image from the S5 from a recent shoot.
Happy shooting,
Steve

Roger and Betty Smith, Hank Yasses, Dewey Neild, Craig and Linda Hutchings, Karl Joyce.
Guest: Alicia Di Lella, guest of Karl Joyce.
Our Speaker: Marland Schmidt and his wife Chips.
Call to order @ 2:10 by Vince Aiosa, President.
Minutes: Approved on a motion by Dan, second by Monroe.
Treasurer's Report:
TEP: Craig Hutchings remarked that despite adverse weather warnings the February TEP had record attendance, and was probably the "most successful in Finger Lakes history". President Vince asked all members to think ahead to next year's TEP. Hank entertained the idea of 2 speakers but was reminded that they need 5 hours each for each merit. The possiblity of joining with another section was mentioned but Craig said "we should do our own thing".
Convention: Some disappointment was expressed in the convention programing (or lack thereof), Honey and Craig agreed that the best speakers were all on one day, and there were lag periods. Craig speculated that PPSNYS could loose up to 20,000 on 2007 convention. Craig said that our New President Steve Bergano will try to put together a tri State Conference for 2008. Dewey said he will contact Steve as he would like to serve on the convention committee.
Council Meeting: Craig said all council dates should be posted on agenda, and Honey suggested they be posted on our newsletter.
Workshop: Linda reports 69 registrants and only 7 to date from Finger Lakes. Linda reminded FL members that thanks to the Blair Rodabaugh scholarship fund there are $100.00 scholarships available for all qualified Finger Lakes members. Suzette Allen's class is filled.
Motion: On a motion by Vince, second by Craig, that life membership category be awarded to Jacquie Degnan as she meets all criteria. Motion approved.
Membership: Honey reported that we have lost four members to GRPP and Ben Chappell has moved to Florida. Dewey said he will bring in two new members.
Hospitality: Linda & Craig offered to host the Finger Lakes annual picnic at their camp at Cheerful Valley Campgrounds where there is a pavillion, horse shoe pit and a pool. To be held August 15th.
For the Good of the Order: Neil mentioned that he'd gotten positive feedback from the Spring Life in the Finger Lakes magazine article. He received an e-mail from a dentist in North Carolina who had a copy in his waiting room. Hank volunteered to submit another story with members photos for possible inclusion in the Summer issue.
Meeting adjourned at 3:15.
Respectfully submitted,
Neil Sjoblom, Secretary.
