A Day With Two nationally Recognized Instructors

Jamie Hayes & Mary Fisk Taylor

This program is a highly energized, informative program that will benefit everyone from the newcomer to the established professional. By combining Jamie’s photographic expertise and Mary’s sound business and management skills, this studio team will show you how to create a strong and positive influence in your own market area. They will discuss and share the key elements they have used to maintain a very profitable portrait and wedding business.

Jamie and Mary will cover all aspects of Children’s Portraiture. In an effort to explain how they have successfully created qualified and happy clients they will take you through the process of a portrait consultation, the portrait session and into the sales room. This live program will include a full demonstration of posing and lighting both in the studio and on location. This program will offer suggestions for successful marketing and advertising planning as well as the importance of brand-naming your studio. Mary will spend time explaining her sales plan, which includes the importance of projection and add-on-sales.

Jamie and Mary have created a wedding business in their area that has surpassed even their own expectations. Nationally they have been highlighted in “Studio Photography and Design Magazine”, “PPA Today Magazine”, and the “Kodak Promise of Excellence Newsletter”, their local publications has named their studio as the “Best in Richmond” for wedding photography and portraiture. They will show you how they have created some of their most memorable wedding albums and images. They will discuss their business philosophy, including the marketing and sales plan used to maximize and increase their wedding business. The artistic and financial rewards of combining Mary’s photography style and design to Jamie’s traditional wedding repertoire. A posing and lighting demonstration for bridal and engagement portraits as well as wedding day posing will be demonstrated.

PPSNYS has a Scholarship Program that gives each section that buys one $100 scholarship a free $100 Scholarship. Each section is free to buy as many more $100 scholarships as they desire. This is an incentive to help with the cost of the school for members of PPSNYS.

Outdoor and Nature Photography
Creative Composition in the Digital Image

A perfect blend of location photography and specific software applications using Photoshop and nikSoftware Color Efex. There will be sunrise and sunset shoots with class time during mid day for critiques and presentations on various topics, such as compositional techniques, creative techniques, and practical software image enhancements. The local natural areas, including Watkins Glen, offer numerous photo ops.

Betty Huth and Ed Booth-Weddings-The Essentials

In their week long class, Betty and Ed will share how they use the latest in digital technology to photograph weddings. They will also cover the work flow from capture to delivery. Pricing, sales, marketing and the development of product lines will be discussed in depth. Their method of "Flow Posing" has added thousands of dollars to their bottom line. If you are just beginning to move it into the digital realm or if you want to perfect your skills and increase your business, this is a class you won't want to miss. Come, learn and have a great time.

Betty and Ed's classes are rated as one of the most fun in all the schools they have taught.

Every member of PPSNYS, PPA or another state's photographic organization (PPA affiliated) is entitled to another $100 deducted from tuition. Your tuition includes the instructor of your choice, air-conditioned classrooms, a CD master set of images from your class (except for digital classes), dorm facilities, breakfast, lunch and dinner, wine and cheese party, Thursday night awards ceremony (with dinner), degree merits for PPA members, class photograph, all school photograph, diploma for your wall, workshop shirt and central parking facility. Call to order @ 2:10 by Vince Aiosa, President.

Chairman's remarks: Vince remarked that the Holiday party at Abagail's Restaurant was "fantastic".

Secretary's Report: No December meeting -- party instead.

Treasurer's Report: Approved as read by Bonnie on a motion by Craig, Second by Vince.

TEP: Responsibilities were assigned as follows: Registration 8:30 - 9:00 - Kevin said he will take care of the registration desk with Craig and Linda's help. Craig suggested that the print judging / critique be lengthened to an hour and a half. Neil will provide print racks, lights, and print corners and ribbons. Honey said that Top Flight will donate the cost of plaques.

It was determined that 10 plaques were needed:
  • 1 for best of each of 3 categories = 3
  • 1 for Judge's choice of each categories = 3
  • 1 for Highest print case
  • 1 for Finger Lakes Award
  • 1 best of show

Monroe volunteered to hawk raffle tickets
Neil said he preferred not to Judge at his own section but agreed to help with judging if needed.

Programs: possibilities for upcoming programs were discussed. It was mentioned that a a rep from Collages.net expressed a desire to speak. Kelvin Reingold -- for March or April, and or a round robin for April.

Membership: Vince said he hoped to settle the ongoing state / section membership problem at the next council meeting - even though it wasn't on the agenda.

Reminder from Honey and Herb -- refund of first year section dues for new TEP attendees who join Finger Lakes. Honey asked who has membership applications? She was told to contact State.

Convention: Craig called this year's convention "the best kept secret in the State".

For the Good of the Order: Vince mentioned that Hank was undergoing medical tests and urged members to drop him a card.

Meeting adjourned at 3:00.
