I'm sitting in Rochester airport right now with plenty of time to kill after missing my flight. The security line was an hour long and AirTran would not hold the flight for the 20 or so passengers stuck on line. I can understand their need to stay on schedule, however it was the way we were treated afterwards that was an eye opener on how I should run my business, or I should say how not to. We were given the option of flying stand by on later flights, much later, but all those flights were over sold. We could guarantee a seat on the flight by paying an extra $234. Imagine if we did that with weddings, over booking the date and making clients pay extra to guarantee we'll show up. This is in addition to the $15 I had to pay to check one bag. I would love to see the look in a clients eyes if I told them there is a $15 charge if they want me to use a flash indoors or even better, a fee each time I change lenses. I would be out of business faster than I could get through the security line, yet the airlines get away with it.
On a positive note, I'm on my way to Vegas for the Senior Portrait Artists conference and then I'm heading straight to Phoenix for PPA. Conference season has started and there is no better way to get fired up for new and exciting things to implement to your business for 2009. If Vegas or Phoenix is too big of a financial bite, the PPSNY state conference in Albany is a must. This years line up is incredible. See you all when I get back.

Membership News
"If everyone took the time to personally invite one member..."
Its the obligation of everyone in the organization to work on membership!

Message from the Section Chairperson
Each January we start our new year with great expectations and
resolutions. We will better ourselves physically, mentally, and or financially. Often
these lofty goals fall by the wayside for a multitude of reasons. I ask you
all to add a resolution, one that I hope that you will keep; over the next 12
months, the year 2009, I ask that each and everyone of the members of the
Finger Lakes section invites 2 guests to a meeting or the TEP. They can be new
to the group or people that have slipped away from us. If you can think of
more people that we can expose to our section, please invite them all. Any
organization that does not grow, dies, and we have something special at Finger
Lakes that I think we should be proud to share. Times are tough both
economically and the demands on our time, but this will cost you nothing, and it may
well add a wealth of knowledge and networking from new ideas that we can be
exposed to and members that we might gain.
As the incoming president of the section I cannot express the gratitude
for those who have served in these office before, for the section that they
have built. Vince has done a fabulous job over the last two years and I hope
that I can come part way up the ladder that he has left for me. Bonnie working
the difficult job as treasurer, Neil keeping our minutes, Honey and Kevin
making the TEP a reality, everyone that has chaired a committee or worked on
one, our delegates, state officers, and every member that has attended a
meeting, thank you all. If I have forgotten anyone or any of their accomplishments
please forgive me and consider yourself thanked and you all are greatly
appreciated.
Let's make 2009 a great year for Finger Lakes and PPSNY.
Remember that the meeting is at a new time:
Business meeting and dinner starts at 5:00 PM
Program starts at 7:00 PM
We will be meeting at Nonna's Trattoria, One Railroad Place, Geneva, New
York and we will be discussing the possibility of changing our meeting's
location to Abigail's in Waterloo.
Respectfully submitted,
Angelo Dan Runfola - Section Chairperson

Happy New Year to All!
2009 is going to be a great year. We start with a **new meeting time** which, hopefully, will make it more convenient for everyone to attend. We will meet on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Nonna's Trattoria in Geneva, New York. Our business meeting will start at 5:00PM with dinner at 5:30PM. The program will begin at 7:00PM and this month will be presented by our very own, Steve Chesler, of Chesler Photography in Canandaigua, NY. Steve was awarded "Silver Photographer of the Year" distinction in 2008 for his Competition Prints. You won't want to miss this program. If you are choosing your competition images for the TEP or State Conference, bring them along for advice.
We will also be welcoming in our new officers for 2009-2010. Dan Runfola, Section Chair, Monroe Payne, 1st VP, Steve Schwarz, 2nd VP, Bonnie Saunders, Treasurer, and Neil Sjoblom, Secretary. We also will thank our outgoing Section Chair, Vince Aiosa, for a job very well done.
There has been a motion to change our venue to Abigail's in Waterloo. This is the restaurant where we have held the Holiday Party for the past 2 years. We will vote on this change during the business meeting.
We will spend a short period of time going over the Service Merit Sheet which was sent out today from PPSNYS in a separate email. In past years there has been some confusion about who is eligible and why they should be sent in. All members are eligible, so download the form and bring it to the meeting. We will help you fill it out and they will be mailed together for everyone's convenience.
It is also time to register for the Finger Lakes TEP to be held in Batavia on Saturday, February 21, 2009 (brochure attached). We have a great day planned and this is a MUST DO seminar for you. BE ONE OF THE FIRST 10 TO REGISTER AND RECEIVE AN EXTRA RAFFLE TICKET FOR GREAT VENDORS PRIZES. Download the pdf file now and mail it in today. We will have brochures available at the Jan meeting for you to distribute to prospective members and any public places where photographers gather.
As in past years, we are offering an incentive for prospective members to join the Finger Lakes Section. If they join Finger Lakes/PPSNYS, Inc. the day of the TEP, the Finger Lakes Portion of the dues will be waived for the first year. That's a $35 discount! If you know anyone who is thinking about becoming a member, the TEP is the place to do it. The speakers are great, the meal is great, the excitment is high and a discount too!
